Congregation Shearith Israel celebrates each Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah with warmth and love. You and your parents have been preparing for this rite-of-passage since the day you were born. We have delighted in your childhood and are honored to escort you through this important transition to young adulthood. We know this is a busy time for you and it may feel overwhelming, but don’t worry: Shearith Israel has been helping Dallas kids celebrate B’nai Mitzvah since 1884. We understand that your Mitzvah year may feel really long but we’ve been at this for more than 130 years so, trust us: it will actually go by faster than you can possibly imagine!
Hazzan Zhrebker supervises our team of outstanding tutors and meets with every prospective Bar and Bat Mitzvah to ensure their progress toward individualized goals. We recognize that becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a challenging experience and that each child has a unique learning style. We provide a binder and a USB drive to each student and our Rabbis and Hazzan are available to address questions and help you build skills, confidence and faith.
Everyone has their own role to play and each family has its own dynamics around religious observance. Don’t be shy when it comes to questioning your place in the world. That’s what Rabbis and teachers are here for! Please feel free to call or email any of our rabbinic staff. We are all here to help you and we are always happy to shmooze. We remember — and hope you will, too — that Jewish adults are not built in a day. Your Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah is just the beginning!
Sandi Burt, our B’nai Mitzvah Coordinator, is here to help parents with the planning process. Please feel free to contact her at your convenience: firstname.lastname@example.org or (214) 939-7315.
Janice Leventhal will be happy to provide parents and party planners with a list of approved caterers and room reservations.
